How far are we from the singularity now?

What startled me about this article was not its content, but the fact that the photo had me going "isn't that the brain-mapping device from Robert Sawyer's The Terminal Experiment?"

Neurosecurity, eh?

Is this how people felt when Gibson coined the term "cyberspace?"

Oh, come on, hacking the brain has been around for years. Gambling short-circuits the brain's risk vs. reward judgement; television's moving images trigger our hunting instincts. And how about the science of overeating?
