Happy Release Day to Rachel Vincent!

Today is the release of Rachel Vincent's My Soul to Take, her YA debut. Please join me in congratulating Rachel!

For those of you who don't know, the Soul Screamers series is about a young Bean Sidhe (banshee) who discovers she has the uncontrollable urge to scream when she's around people who are going to die. But can Kaylee learn to use this power to prevent the deaths and solve a string of murders?

Having read the first 8 chapters of this novel early, I can promise you it's funny, it's lovely, it's sexy, and it's so darn real that you'll forget it's a "paranormal." I love Kaylee and Nash and Emma—and you're going to love them, too!

Make sure you download the free eBook prequel "My Soul To Lose" (scroll down) for an epic short story introduction into Kaylee's amazing world. Be ready January 1, 2010 to kick off your year with the sequel, and the third volume of the series will release in the following June.

Happy Debut to Karen Mahoney!

Today is the release of The Eternal Kiss, a collection of 13 YA Vampire Romance tales. While the anthology features Libba Bray, Cassandra Clare, Holly Black, Lili St Crow and others... the most notable of the stories is "Falling to Ash," a debut tale for Karen Mahoney.

If you spend any time on livejournal or are familiar with the Deadline Dames, then you're well aware of the brilliant Ms. Mahoney. Hard-working and incredibly supportive of the online writing community, Karen may not willingly admit how deserving she is of her place among such a talented collection of story-tellers. Rectify that, please, by taking this opportunity to remind her of how talented she is.

I read an earlier version of "Falling to Ash," and I can tell you that it's brilliant and Moth is wonderful. You're going to fall in love with her and demand to see more. (Please do, because then we can the full-length novel from Moth's POV that Karen has been working so hard on revising.)

If you don't want to take my word for it, click here to search inside the collection and read the first six pages of "Falling to Ash."

Congratulations, Kaz, we're so proud of you!

Oh World Fantasy, you so kindly favor me with a progress report and a programming survey, but you neglect to realize I go to one major conference a year. Neil Gaiman + Montreal = kicked your ass. Besides, they're letting me read FRAGMENTS and moderate panels.

Try again in 2010, please.

Modern Love by Elizabeth M Thurmond

Go read my friend Liz's excellent flash piece at Everyday Fiction. Do it now!

Print it off and bring it Anticipation in Montreal so she can sign it for you. Then frame it and cherish it forever.

This, my friends, is L-O-V-E.

How far are we from the singularity now?

What startled me about this article was not its content, but the fact that the photo had me going "isn't that the brain-mapping device from Robert Sawyer's The Terminal Experiment?"

Neurosecurity, eh?

Is this how people felt when Gibson coined the term "cyberspace?"

Happy Debut Day to Lisa Mantchev

Today marks the debut of Lisa Mantchev's Eyes Like Stars, the first Act in the Theatre Illuminata series. Congratulations, Lisa! This YA Fantasy about a theatre where every player from every play lives is generating tremendous buzz, and not just because of Jason Chan's gorgeous cover art.

It has Shakespeare and Pirates and Fairies and Theatre! How could it not be one of the best books ever?

Happy Canada Day, Everyone! On this day in 1867, Queen Victoria signed the British North American Act, which began the process of turning Canada from a territory of England into a country of its own.

If you're not celebrating good old Dominion day, and you really ought to be, then here's two more reasons why today is wonderful:

Congratulations to Rachel Vincent, whose fourth novel Prey is officially released!

You can read that My Soul to Lose, her eBook prequel to her new YA series by purchasing it from Harlequin Teen. I read this story in beta version, and while no doubt things have changed, I can promise you it's an excellent introduction to Kaylee's world and a prime example of why Vincent is going to tear up the YA charts just like she has the adult ones.
